You Might Be Melting Your Hair

The dangers of using your curling or flat iron to get rid of your bedhead include hair that won’t grow, layers you didn’t want, and hair that won’t do what you want. If this sounds like the kind of problem you’re having, keep reading.

When you use your irons to get rid of bedhead, you’re asking the iron to do something it was never meant to do. The shape your hair takes from sleeping is helped by the humidity that comes from your body while you sleep. That means you have to use humidity to put it back into shape.

It doesn’t have enough moisture to respond to the iron, which makes people either take several passes over their hair or turn up the heat until it works. Because you’re using a heat tool to do what only water can do, you’re melting your hair. The ends of your hair get thinner and thinner until they dissipate. The dryness from the heat makes what’s left of your ends feel rough.

The solution to all of this is to add a bit of moisture to your hair in the morning, brush it through, and then use your blowdryer and a round brush (unless you have naturally curly hair) to reshape it. Your hair will have what it needs to do what you want it to do. You’ll get to watch it grow and finally get rid of the short layers on top that you never asked for.

The best way to add moisture is to use a water bottle. The continuous spray ones are the best because they mist instead of squirt. Comb it through, add some serum, and use your round brush and blow dryer.
